RS stands for 'Rally Sport,' which this model is essentially the closest to its homologated WRC counterpart.

Introduced in December 1999 to commemorate rally ace Tommi Makinens fourth consecutive WRC Drivers Championship win, the Evo VI edition name in his honour features a number of changes and upgrades compared to the standard model. From a standard tommi makinen the RS MODEL came with a more aggressive bodykit, 10mm lower suspension with revised dampers, a helical front limited-slip differential and a faster-spooling titanium turbocharger, all with the aim of improving the cars performance on tarmac surfaces.

the Ralliart UK Stage 1 engine performance pack, which provided better acceleration, improved throttle response, and overall drivability. It's also equipped with Eibach springs with revised geometry for improved handling, RS version was also sold with full rally-spec suspension, an LSD rather than Active Yaw Control plus a competition close-ratio gearbox and a Group N rally-specification front helical differential. The interior, on the other hand, gets Recaro RS front seats.
